照著財務獨立那篇裡的定義,底下幾個數字我牢記在心

大部分的財務專家同意,如果每年從存款裡頭提取4%,在你的有生之年,存款耗竭的機率頗低。這當然跟你怎麼分散投資這筆存款有很大的關係,不過那是另外一篇文章要談的。 - 25
4%的倒數就是25倍,換句話說,達到財務獨立的前提,是有一筆相當於年支出25倍的存款。 - 300
25倍乘以12個月等於300。這是從本金裡支付每個月開支所需的數字。
為何這些數字這麼重要?下次你上班途中經過咖啡店隨意買杯咖啡,應該計算一下一個月下來總共幾杯,假設一個月花20元喝咖啡,你可以快速的在腦袋裡得出,喝咖啡這個習慣需要6000元的終身存款支持 ($20*300)。而一個月$1200的房租則約等於36萬。
同樣道理,每年回中國的那趟一家四口的機票錢$5000元,大概需要$125,000的存款($5000*25)。
有了這樣的觀念,你會不會覺得每一筆看似零頭的開支,都突然沉重無比呢?

Your last sentence in this article reminded me of Warren Buffet. He treats every dollar as ten, since that is how much it will be worth someday. It’s really a good concept. It can serve as a big motivation on budgeting.
One of the legends of him is that he tried to break a quarter when Kay (a close friend of him, owner of Washington Post) asked some change for a phone call. (it was 10 cents back then to make a phone call on public phone)
Highly recommend “Snowball” by Alice Schroeder. I’ve finished it and haven’t got the time (or courage) to review it.
